Community Code of Conduct

Being Excellent to Each Other at PS:One

Pumping Station: One (PS:One) is committed to providing a welcoming and harassment-free environment for people regardless of level of experience, level of ability, level of interest, gender, gender expression, sexuality, age, race, creed, color, origin, or personal experience. We believe in having a set of guidelines for individuals while in PS:One's physical or online spaces.

Expected Awesome Behavior

We all work together in creating a safe physical and online space for everyone. Help the community by striving for the following awesome behavior:

1. Respect and Inclusivity: Treat all individuals with respect and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for everyone. Everyone has their own identity they choose to share in the community, and respecting that is part of being an excellent member. Discrimination, harassment, or hate speech is not welcomed in PS:One.
2. Disengage and Listen: If you're asked to please disengage in unwanted conversation, are told to stop, or informed that your behavior is unwanted, please show respect by taking a step back. Be open to listen to the issue at hand, or disengage if asked.
3. Let Others Speak: We all get excited by making cool things, sometimes a little too excited. Not stepping on each other by making space for others to speak makes builds growth and respect.
4. Support Thy Maker: PS:One is a community of makers who like to share, teach, and collaborate. Please help the community by considering teaching a class on a subject you know others are interested in, or offering a workshop. If someone asks you for help, and you're able to, lend a hand. We all elevate each other.
5. Privacy: Don't be a creep! Ask before photographing/recording someone or what they're working on.

Buildings a Safe Physical Space

Members, guests, and visitors are responsible for their own actions and belongings, are expected to leave the space cleaner than they found it, and contribute to a culture of safety. All persons must have a liability form filled out in advance of entering the space, and those under the age of 18 are not to be on the premises without a parent or legal guardian present.

1. Safety: Always prioritize the safety of yourself, others, and the facility. Communicate to others around you when using larger tools. Follow the directions of any volunteers, area hosts, PS:One officers or board members. Read and adhere to all posted safety procedures and guidelines when using tools and equipment. Report any unsafe conditions or behaviors.
2. Use of Facilities: Respect the space and resources provided by PS1. Outside the members (including you), there is no paid shop cleaning staff. Please leave the space cleaner than you found it, return tools to their proper places, and use equipment responsibly. Contribute back to the community by taking the trash out or asking an area host how else to help with the last 15 minutes I spend in the space.
3. Personal Responsibility: This is a volunteer run organization, you help everyone by reporting any tools that are broken or break, even if you accidentally break them. The only time is it not ok to break a tool is when it goes unreported.
4. Access to PS:One is a Privilege, Not a Right: If asked to not use a tool or be in a particular part of the space, please listen to others and respect signs. If you have a deadline for a project, plan ahead. Nothing at PS:One is guaranteed to be always working.

What's Not Tolerated at PS:One

The following actions are strictly prohibited by any members, guests, or visitors of PS:One both in the space and online:

1. Disregard for personal and others safety.
2. Demonstrated inability to treat any person, member, organization, or facility with respect.
3. Harassment:
   1. Verbal Abuse
      • Slurs, insults, offensive jokes, or derogatory remarks
      • Threats of violence or retaliation
   2. Physical Harassment
      • Unwanted touch, intimidation, threats, or violence.
      • Stalking, nonconsensual photographing/recording of others
   3. Sexual Harassment
      • Unwelcome sexual advances, comments, innuendos, or sexual content.
      • Using PS:One as a dating app
   4. Cyber-harassment
      • Doxxing, stalking, trolling, or hostile messages online.
4. Discrimination:
   1. Identity-Based Discrimination
      • Sexism
      • Gender Identity or Expression
      • Sexual Orientation
      • Race or Ethnicity
      • Religion or Belief
      • Disability or Neurodivergence
      • Age
      • Nationality or Immigration Status
      • Socioeconomic Status
      • Appearance
      • Skill level
   2. Exclusionary Behavior
      • Gatekeeping, belittling, or creating a hostile environment for anyone.
5. Disruption of the community culture of respect and inclusivity
6. Retaliation, punishing or ostracizing individuals for reporting misconduct.
7. Violence of any kind
8. The use of PS:One equipment, facilities, or network to perform any act deemed illegal by State, Federal, or Local law.
9. The use of PS:One's identity/branding to promote prohibited actions external to the community.
10. Intentional damage or theft of PS:One equipment or members' and guests' personal belongings.
11. Invasion of privacy
12. Disregard for community agreements (Membership Agreement, Bylaws, or any other policy adopted by the membership)

Corrective Actions

Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in actions taken by the Board of Directors or their designee, including but not limited to:

• Immediate removal from the physical space or events
• Restricted access to PS:One online spaces or online resources
• Suspension or termination of membership
• Other disciplinary action deemed necessary based on the severity of the violation

How to Get Help

When faced with a situation where the community code of conduct is being stepped on here's what you can do...

Harassment, discrimination, invasion of privacy:

1. If you have immediate safety issues, find another member for help or leave the space, following up by contacting the Dispute Resolution Committee after you're somewhere safe.
2. If you are comfortable, tell the person to stop or to disengage, following up by contracting the Dispute Resolution Committee if the situation isn't correct.
3. Seek out an area host, PS:One officer or board member for help.
4. Contact the Dispute Resolution Committee
5. Seek out aid through #general on Discord.

Violence:

1. If you have immediate concerns of violence, yell for help and dial 911
2. Notify people through #general on Discord.
3. Email info@pumpingstationone.org with a report

Shop safety and cleanliness:

If someone is using a tool not safely:

1. Ask them to be safe
2. Seek out an area host
3. Notify people through the area's channel on Discord.

If there's a safety concern you see in an area:

1. Let other members near you know
2. Seek out an area host
3. Tag the tool or area as unsafe
4. Notify people through the area's channel on Discord.

Retaliation:

1. If you feel that a PS:One officer or board member is retaliating against you, contact the Dispute Resolution Committee
2. If you feel that someone on the Dispute Resolution Committee is retaliating against you, contact the board of directors.
