We made a promotional brochure for PS:1 to support fundraising efforts in 2024.
Any 8.5" x 11" cardstock around 160-190 GSM should work fine. This is the one we used for the first print:

===How to Print the Brochure===
====General Notes====
Notes:
*Margins are baked into the design. Always print at 100%.
*For best results, use the [https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/article/KB0014064 bypass tray (Tray 5)]
**Bypasses any dirty rollers on the inside of the printer
**Can print 20-30 brochures at a time using bypass
**Do test prints with the same tray you'll be using for the full batch
*When loading paper, select "Lightweight Cardstock"
**This affects what thickness the printer expects
**More accurate thickness = less chance of misfeed

Includes PDF and the InDesign source file.

Editing the Brochure

Printing the Brochure

Documenting recommended steps to ensure consistent results.

Recommended Paper

Any 8.5" x 11" cardstock 160-190 GSM should work. We used this one:

Neenah Index Cardstock, 8.5" x 11", 90 lb/163 gsm, White, Lightweight, 94 Brightness, 300 Sheets (91437)

General Notes

  • Margins are baked into the design. Always print at 100%.
  • For best results, use the bypass tray (Tray 5)
    • Bypasses any dirty rollers on the inside of the printer
    • Can print 20-30 brochures at a time using bypass
    • Do test prints with the same tray you'll be using for the full batch
  • When loading paper, select "Lightweight Cardstock"
    • This affects what thickness the printer expects
    • More accurate thickness = less chance of misfeed

Printing Steps

  1. Setup the printer:
    1. Insert cardstock into Tray 5 of the Xerox
    2. Change paper type to "Lightweight Cardstock"
  2. Setup your computer:
    1. Connect to PS:1's WiFi to detect the printer
    2. Install the Xerox WorkCentre 7855 drivers:
    3. Open the brochure PDF in Firefox
  3. Menu > Print
    1. Scale: 100%
    2. Two-sided printing: Flip on short edge
  4. Click "Print using the system dialog..."
  5. Select "Xeros PS" > Preferences
    1. Paper: Tray 5 (Bypass)
    2. 2-Sided Printing: 2-Sided Print, Flip on Short Edge
    3. Print Quality: High Resolution
    4. Orientation: Landscape
  6. Click "OK" and "Print"

Creasing Steps

Last known location of the creasing machine
Example setup of creasing machine for brochure
  1. Locate the paper creasing machine in Arts (see photo)
  2. Open the lid and verify that the wheel is set to crease the page into 1/3 + 2/3
    • We currently only have one creasing wheel
    • See photo for an example setup
  3. Close lid, turn on machine, insert paper, and make the first crease
    • Make sure the front faces up
    • Creasing with the front facing down results in broken fibers at the crease line
    • Support the paper on the sides as it feeds through to prevent the crease line from wandering
    • (You get a feel for this after a few creases)
  4. Rotate paper upside down, and crease again
    • Keep the front facing up, just rotate it around the z-axis
  5. Use a bone folder (or your nail lol) to fold the paper along the crease marks
    • You may need to do a little finessing to make sure the inner flap is marginally smaller than the outer
    • (You'll get a feel for this after a few creases, too)

Changelog
