Intro to PS1

Introductions

New People

New People (name - where did you hear about us - what do you make/hack)

• Jason | Woodworking & Arduino | found us online searching workspaces
• Walter | Woodworking and software - interested in raspberry pi & arduino | found out about us from old members when we were in the old space
• Jonathan | mathematician engineer computer scientist | cnc machines & 3D printers & robots and makes custom knives | has been making a makerspace at UIC | read about us a long time ago
• Rich | makes paper things |

Two Random Members

• Adriana | found about us at a Py Ladies event | hasn'tn learned python, has been woodworking, jewelry making, metalworking, etc. in the past six month
• Ed | found out about PS1 through a student at Art Institute ~2009 | electronics & machining, hosts Not Exclusively Raspberry Pi

Things that need doing around the space

• Light in the kitchen is borked
• Table saw vertical adjustment is super tight
• Water damage in the lounge 2.0 needs fixing
• Things in the lounge that live elsewhere could get moved
• New door for 2.0 lounge - could we put in a large sliding door to give the chance to keep things open
• Window in lounge 2.0 needs to be fixed
• Garbage always needs to be taken out
• Crate that big laser came in needs to get broken down into dumpster-sized bits
  • Rich is going to take it
• Old bulbs that are in the boiler room need to be disposed of
  • Where do these things go?
  • There's a place on Goose Island Household Chemicals & Computer Recycling Facility
    • Open Tuesdays (7 am – 12 pm), Thursdays (2- 7 pm), The first Saturday of every month (8 am – 3 pm)
  • Shelly & Adriana will take the bulbs
• Adriana will take notes next week because Simon will not be here

Awesome Callouts

• Ron Ken, Niko, Andrew, Matt, Daniel, Erik, New Member John, a few other folks too - all did a lot of awesome stuff for the space on a 24 hour work marathon
  • Moved the laser, did a ton of electrical and plumbing work, and all sorts of other great things
• Thanks to Gerald and Shelly for making awesome curry and feeding the working crew
• Thanks to game night for entertaining the 24 hour party/work people
• Extra special thanks to Ken for making it all happen and running around teaching people how to thread pipe, punch holes in walls
• Lyn & Ron for helping Jennie's friend put in his SSD
• Jennie for helping Justin with a gift for his niece
• Aushra for running the spinning ring jewelry class

What have you been hacking

• Gerald painted robot miniatures for his robot RPG Battletech
• Justin made a kleenex caddy for a belt
• Aushra made some spinner ring samples
• Ed has a metal plate in his arm, and he wants to know if there are fun things you can do with a metal plate in your arm
• Shellie made more dragon parts
• Brian has begun working on new vacuum former
• Will is working on a jellyfish lamp
• Making some new legs for a marble coffee table

Announcements

• It's Jesse's birthday
• Pre-Halloween party Sunday October 30 @ 1pm
  • We need volunteers for
    • welcoming door,
    • judge children's pumpkin carving,
    • bar & grill
• Wednesday at 8pm - bike night!
• Special Interest Group for Robotics - Thursday in electronics at 7 pm
• Cable Access Jam Office Hours - come play instruments, whether good, bad, or middling
• Fusion360 meetup - 7 pm Wednesday, come learn to model Fusion360
• Rob is our new CNC authorizer
• Adriana is going to lock the language on kitchen budget vote, so please vote next week
• 300 Seconds of Fame is happening tonight after the member meeting
• There's a new tube in the laser cutter
